The 11th International Conference on Geometry and Graphics was organized, hosted and sponsored by Guangdong University of Technology in Guangzhou, China, from August 1 to August 5 in the year 2004, together with the co-sponsorship of the International Society for Geometry and Graphics, The China Engineering Graphics Society and The Japan Society for Graphic Science, 112 delegates  from 14 countries (including Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, Israel, Japan, Laos, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, USA) attended the conference.

The delegates were welcomed by Professors Xin Chen, vice president of GDUT, Gunter WEISS, president of ISGG, Bingshu TONG, vice president of CEGS, Kenjiro SUZUKI, president of JSGS and Zongyi ZUO, Executive Chairwoman of the 11th ICGG Committee.

Professors ZUO and FENG, ably assisted by their staff at GDUT, MO Chunliu,  TAN Xiamei, ZHANG Yanxi, WEI Yuwei, TAN Chaolan, LI Bing, TANG Xilong, also LING Ling, WANG Sui and xiao HUANG,  XIE, YUAN , ZHOU, WEI and others  have put together superb technical and social programs and have prepared both a printed as well as an electronic version of Conference Proceedings, which were handed over to each of the delegates.

The Opening Ceremony was followed by Plenary Lectures given by Professors  Gunter WEISS (Germany), Gert F. BAER (Germany), Zongyi ZUO (China), Kenjiro SUZUKI (Japan). During the conference, there were 27 parallel sessions in all, classified as Graphics Education, Theoretical Graphics, and Application Graphics. And delegates from various countries presented their recent research work, their new technology, and exchanged their ideas during the parallel sessions.

All participants have enjoyed memorable repasts of Cantonese Cuisine and the remarkable environment of Guangzhou, truly a pearl of many traditional and modern layers in Southern China. The social program for delegates and guests has included cultural tours, wonderful sightseeing, attractive shopping, a river boat tour at night, and three sumptuous meals, every days, that may only be called Banquets. The Special Banquet, an official event at most conferences, turned out to be much more than just a noble Banquet: It also was an impressing show of different cultures and talents, when groups of participants or professional soloists performed  national songs and dances.

At the end of the conference, during the closing ceremony,  Gunter WEISS (president ISGG)  Emiko TSUTSUMI (vice president ISGG), on behalf of the Steve Slaby Award Committee of the ISGG, distinguished Prof. Dr. Hellmuth Stachel (vice president ISGG and Chief Editor of the JGG) from Austria with the “Steve Slaby Award 2004” for his outstanding contributions to Geometry and Graphics Education and Research;.

Prof. Emiko TSUTSUMI presented herself as candidate for the presidency of ISGG for the term 2005 to 2008. The election of the next ISGG Steering Board will be carried out via Internet autumn 2004;

Prof. Eduardo Toledo Santos (Brazil) applied for the Brazilian City Salvador as the next conference site for the 12th ICGG 2006, and he gave an impressing video presentation of his beautiful country, which made it easy to the auditory to accept his application;

Prof. Paul ZSOMBOR-MURRAY (vice president ISGG), read up a “Final Resolution” giving a resume of the ICGG 2004. This resolution ended  with “...Therefore, it is resolved that the delegates to the Eleventh International Conference on Geometry and Graphics vote motion of their enthusiastic and unanimous gratitude to the responsible organizations and individuals...”, and it was accepted with standing ovations of the audience.

Finally, with delegates singing the Friendships Song in different languages and holding hand to hand, the 11th ICGG came to its complete end.
